Confirmation
Confirmation is the sacrament in which baptized Catholics receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit, strengthening them to live their faith more fully and to become active witnesses of Jesus Christ. Through Confirmation, we are more deeply united to Christ and His Church and are empowered to share the Gospel through our words and actions.
Who Can Receive Confirmation?
Our Confirmation preparation program is designed for young people who have been baptized, have received First Holy Communion, and are ready to deepen their relationship with Christ and His Church.
Students typically begin preparation in their early high school years and receive the sacrament around ages 15–17, depending on their readiness and completion of the program.
Preparation Requirements
To help candidates grow in faith and prepare to receive the sacrament fruitfully, the following are required:
- Active participation in our Faith Formation Program for at least two consecutive years.
- Regular attendance at Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation.
- Participation in Confirmation classes, retreats, service opportunities, and parish activities.
- A desire to grow in faith and live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
- Submission of a Baptismal certificate (if baptized outside St. James Catholic Parish).
Sponsors
Each candidate must choose a Confirmation sponsor who will accompany and support them in their faith journey.
The Church asks that sponsors:
- Be at least 16 years of age.
- Be a fully initiated Catholic, having received Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
- Be actively practicing the Catholic faith.
- If married, be in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church.
- Be able and willing to serve as a spiritual mentor and example.
