Marriage
Congratulations on your engagement! We are delighted that you are considering celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage at St. James Catholic Parish.
Marriage is a sacred covenant in which a man and a woman establish a lifelong partnership of love and fidelity. Through this sacrament, Christ strengthens couples to love one another as He loves His Church and to build a family rooted in faith.
Beginning the Process
Couples are encouraged to contact the parish at least six months before their desired wedding date. This allows sufficient time for spiritual preparation, required meetings, and the completion of all necessary documentation.
Please do not make final arrangements for a reception venue or other major commitments until the wedding date has been confirmed by the parish.
Requirements for Celebrating a Catholic Marriage
The Church rejoices with you as you prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage. To help ensure that your celebration is meaningful, well-prepared, and in accordance with the teachings of the Church, the following steps are generally required:
- An initial meeting with a priest or deacon to begin your marriage preparation journey.
- Completion of the Archdiocese’s marriage preparation process.
- Recent copies of Baptismal certificates for Catholic parties (issued within the last six months).
- Completion of the required Church forms and documents.
- Participation in a marriage preparation program or retreat designed to support and strengthen your relationship.
- Confirmation that both parties are free to marry according to the laws of the Catholic Church.
Additional documents or steps may be requested depending on individual circumstances, and the parish is here to guide you with care throughout the process.
