OUR STORY
Parishioners at Saint James established in 1952 celebrated Mass at the Red Feathers Farm Building, Barry College Auditorium, at Saint Rose of Lima and at Holy Family churches before they built a provincial church, rectory and convent in 1952. They also formed the Ushers Club and the Women’s Club.
Under the direction of Father William O’Farrell, who served as second pastor from 1952 to 1954, the parish opened a 12 classroom school, staffed by Dominican Sisters from Adrian, Michigan and lay teachers. Parishioners built the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima and formed the Holy Name Society, Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the Parents’ Club.
The parish tripled in size by 1960 and needed a larger worship space. The new church was dedicated in 1963, and the old church building became the school library, a classroom, and a meeting place.
The multicultural community thrived: programs for preschoolers through to the elderly and numerous parish traditions were established in the 1970s. Parishioners continue to support parties, carnivals, picnics, Bible study, religious education classes, pre Cana conferences, and even blessings for pets.

Los feligreses de St. James, establecida en 1952, celebraban la misa en el edifi cio Red Feathers Farm, en el auditorio de Barry College, y en las iglesias St. Rose of Lima y Holy Family, antes de que se construyera una iglesia, una rectoría y un convento en ese mismo año. También establecieron el Club de Ujieres y el Club de Damas.
Bajo la dirección del Padre William O’Farrell, su segundo párroco de 1952 a 1954, la parroquia abrió una escuela de 12 salones, atendida por las religiosas dominicas de Adrian, Michigan, y maestras laicas. Los feligreses construyeron una ermita dedicada a Nuestra Señora de Fátima y establecieron la Sociedad del Santo Nombre, la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl, y el Club de Padres.
Para 1960, la parroquia se había triplicado en tamaño y necesitaba un lugar más amplio para el culto. La nueva iglesia fue dedicada en 1963, y el antiguo edifi cio fue convertido en la biblioteca de la escuela, y en un salón para reuniones.
La comunidad multicultural progresó. En la década de 1970 se establecieron programas dirigidos para los niños de edad preescolar hasta los ancianos. Los feligreses continúan su apoyo a las fi estas, los festivales, los picnics, el estudio bíblico, las clases de educación religiosa, las conferencias pre-Caná, y hasta la bendición de las mascotas.
